Materials I Use
My Favourite Art Materials
I’m currently working mainly in coloured pencils, a medium I’ve completely fallen in love with. I use some of the most lightfast and professional-grade brands available, chosen specifically for their quality, durability, and vibrant pigmentation. By building up many delicate layers and blending carefully, I aim to create realistic, detailed drawings that feel alive on the page.
The surfaces I work on are just as important as the pencils themselves. I use a range of high-quality papers, each selected to suit the subject and style of the piece. Clairfontaine Pastelmat is one of my favourites—soft yet durable, it’s perfect for layering. Strathmore Bristol Vellum offers a smooth surface that’s ideal for fine detail, while Derwent’s Lightfast Paper has a great tooth and holds tone beautifully. I also enjoy working on heavyweight hot pressed watercolour papers for their texture and versatility. More recently, I’ve been exploring double-sided matte Drafting Film, which has quickly become a favourite for its crisp, clean finish.
I’m always experimenting with new materials and surfaces, so this list is constantly evolving. I’m excited to see how these tools continue to shape and refine my artistic style in the months ahead.
